Break the Silence on Childhood Violence

Break the Silence on Childhood Violence, a NDTV production for Know Violence in Childhood, animates the key messages emerging from Ending Violence in Childhood, the Initiative's flagship Global Report 2017.
The 4-minute animation film skillfully uses a commonplace "thread" to denote the everyday experience of interpersonal violence by children in their lives and relationships, across homes, schools and communities. The report makes recommendations for ending childhood violence based on an extensive review and synthesis of global evidence on effective violence-prevention strategies. The starting point for ending violence is to "break the silence".

Masculinity 2.0: A Curriculum to Promote a Future of Masculinity with Gender Equity

This handbook is designed for use by facilitators who work to engage young men in gender equity, violence prevention, and the creation of healthier, more just relationships. The curriculum includes a series of sessions to enable young people to reflect and build collective support to make positive and healthy changes in their lives. Using the lens of intersectionality, Masculinities 2.0 encourages young people to reflect critically on their identities in the specific contexts in which they are formed.Manhood 2.0 is a transformative gender curriculum developed by Promundo and the University of Pittsburgh to engage 15-24 year olds in reflections on the impacts of harmful gender norms, specifically those involving issues such as teenage pregnancy, dating violence, sexual violence and LGBTQI + phobia. The initiative is an adaptation of Program H, an evidence-based program launched by Promundo and partners in 2002 and adapted in more than 35 countries around the world. Underlying this approach is the knowledge that the ways in which boys and young men are socialized have profound implications for the health, well-being and safety of all people.

Principles to Guide Actions Concerning Children on the move and Other Children Affected by Migration

The “Principles” are intended to influence policy makers and other stakeholders responsible for implementing measures that affect the rights and needs of these children. Many of the “Principles” are binding obligations already widely ratified by States. Nevertheless, because they are without exception poorly and incompletely implemented, their re-statement in concise form provides a workable tool for action.

Proving Children with a loving, family environment through fostering in Romania

The video below describes an example of foster care. Alex and Emi live with a foster family in Bacau county, Romania. They were taken into care as their mother died when they were young and they haven't seen their father in over a year. In the past, the boys (and their seven other siblings) would likely have ended up in institutional care. However, the Government of Romania, UNICEF, and other organizations have made efforts to ensure children go to residential care only when there are no other options available to them. These organizations prioritize (1) preventing children from being taken out of family environments through family strengthening and (2) foster care.
