Education and environmental care in Amazonia
From 25th February to 1st March, the second Workshop of the Pan-Amazonian Network of educational centres of Fe y Alegría was held in La Joya de los Sachas, in the Ecuatorian Amazon. There were representatives of Fe y Alegría from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela, as well as the Jesuit Pan-Amazonian Service, the Fe y Alegría International Federation and the Xavier Network, represented by the Spanish NGO ALBOAN.
They were days of intense work in which each delegation shared the progress made within the three lines prioritized by the project: intercultural education, bilingual education, and care and defense of nature.
In addition, the work to be carried out in 2019 was adjusted according to the reflections shared in the workshop and, the direction of network construction was deepened both among the institutions that participate directly in the project and with others present in the territories in which they develop the activities of it.
Participants also visited the educational centre Oscar Romero, of Fe y Alegría Ecuador in the Joya de los Sachas, where they talked with teachers about how they are implementing the project in the centre and about the challenges of promoting care and defense of nature in a purely oil area.
