Make some noise for Climate
Join Jesuit Missions UK on Wednesday 26th June to make some noise for climate!
Pope Francis spoke about the importance of caring for our common home in his encyclical Laudato Si four years ago and now the world is finally waking up to this message. Individuals are taking action, now it’s time for the government to take action.
In Laudato Si, Pope Francis says, “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.”
Jesuit Missions will be joining the Climate Coalition and thousands of individuals from across the UK on the 26th June to lobby our MP’s to tell them that the UK can no longer contribute to climate change and the destruction of our common home. We want the UK to commit to a net zero carbon emissions target, but we need your help.
The day will begin at the Jesuit Centre at 114 Mount Street, London at 10.30am with a briefing from Jesuit Missions who will speak about the work that we do across the world supporting communities affected by climate change. This will be followed by Jesuit provincial Fr Damian Howard SJ and Mr Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale and Liberal Democrat spokesperson on environment, food and rural affairs who will speak about the urgent need for action on climate change and tips on how to lobby our MP’s.
In the afternoon we will all walk together to Westminster making as much noise as possible. Please bring some recyclable rubbish with you to join our Rubbish Band! At 2pm, we will show MP’s that the earth’s alarm clock is ringing by setting off as many alarm clocks as possible while we wait in lines with other people from our constituencies to lobby our MP’s.
Paul Chitnis, Director at Jesuit Missions says, “Climate Change is affecting people across the world, the increase in temperatures caused by global carbon emissions has led to an increased frequency of climate related natural disasters often affecting the poorest people in the world. We are inviting people to join us as we share our concerns with leaders who can make a difference.”
By lobbying our MP’s we are sending a powerful message that the time is now to act on climate change.
