People in the service of others
Founded in 1968, Jesuitenmission is the mission office of the Jesuit Province of Austria. In 2009, an independent NGO was set up for the province’s international development work: Menschen für Andere – Jesuitenaktion für weltweite Sozialprojekte.
We focus on education, food security, farming, social issues, refugees and long-term development projects across 26 countries. In addition, we stand ready to provide humanitarian emergency response through the Xavier Network: relief has recently been provided in Nepal, Haiti, Vietnam, Ecuador and the Philippines.
Advocacy, particularly around mining and the refugee crisis, is also conducted through the Xavier Network and in partnership with the Austrian network of faith-based NGOs.
We invest in education in many ways, for example through funding for scholarships, teacher training, Fe y Alegría schools, and community integrated learning processes.
Together with the Jesuit missionary offices in Germany and Switzerland, we place between 25 and 30 overseas volunteers each year, to create agents of social change with a strong faith, sense of justice and understanding of other cultures.
