Transformation and social justice
Fundação Gonçalo da Silveira (FGS), founded in 2004, is the international development NGO of the Jesuit Province of Portugal. We work at home on global citizenship education and in Mozambique on rural development, including livelihoods, healthcare, and support for children orphaned by HIV and AIDs.
A highlight of our education work is our collaboration on a national project to improve the standard of development education in Portugal, educating young people about global issues. We are one of the founding members of the Global Citizenship Education Network. Our work reaches into 90 schools across Portugal.
In advocacy work, we are currently campaigning for strict European regulation against the use of conflict minerals, together with fellow Xavier Network member ALBOAN. We also provide humanitarian and emergency aid in partnership with the Xavier Network, for example after the earthquake in Nepal.
