Stories of hope: Fondazione MAGIS publishes their annual social report
Fondazione MAGIS ETS has published its Social Report 2023: activities, efforts and results achieved, to share the work done together with Jesuit missionaries and their collaborators around the world.
This report is not a simple technical report (or financial balance sheet) but the testimony of many lives improved thanks to the collaboration and solidarity of many.
In 2023, the Foundation implemented 48 projects (in 5 areas: culture, fundamental rights, education, peace, health) in 24 countries. 1,678,272 people saw improvements in their lives.
All this was achieved thanks to 42 partner organisations and 878 active donors.
The Foundation’s commitment in Italy focused on global citizenship education.
The document reports life stories and testimonies that give hope. Stories like that of Déborah, a 14-year-old girl taken in by the Jesuits’ Foyer de l’Espérance in Yaoundé, Cameroon: “After my father died, my family entrusted me to a woman who was supposed to take me to my mother in the village of Kanana, but the woman took me to Yaoundé. I slept on the street for two days and then they took me to a police station, which took me to the Social Affairs Centre in Yaoundé. They entrusted me to the Foyer, which received me very well, thank God. When I arrived there, I could not speak, read, write or understand French. The Foyer gave me a chance that I could not have had with my family. Now that I go to school, I can already speak, read and write French. And my dream is to become a seamstress.”
The aim of the report is also to share the passion and commitment of walking alongside the poor and excluded to build a fairer and more humane world together.
Fondazione MAGIS (Movement and Action of Jesuits Together for Development) is a work of the Euro-Mediterranean Province of the Society of Jesus and a member of the Xavier Network.
