2023 Syria Earthquake Humanitarian Response
On 6 February 2023, a powerful and deadly earthquake hit northwest Syria. The situation is very critical and people need immediate assistance. The Xavier Network supports Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) – Syria as it actively works on the ground to address the needs of those most affected in Aleppo, one of the most populous cities in Syria. Aleppo and its surrounding areas have been affected by two earthquakes (7.7 and 7.5) and hundreds of aftershocks.
JRS Syria staff are doing all they can to help with emergency services. Since 2008, JRS has provided humanitarian aid to millions of refugees displaced by the on-going Syrian armed conflict. This earthquake has exacerbated the living conditions of displaced people who are already battling a harsh winter and dealing with a cholera outbreak.
In the coming weeks, access to food, clean water and basic necessities will be critical. Please support JRS Syria as they help the people of Syria recover from this disaster.
