Canadian Jesuits International (CJI) is the international solidarity agency of the Jesuits of Canada that supports poor and marginalized people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Its vision is a world of peace, justice, and integrity of creation, transformed through active commitment.
CJI strengthens its solidarity with partners in the Global South through projects in more than 40 countries. It strives to cultivate strong relationships, supports Jesuit networks and priorities, and advances social transformation. CJI’s primary areas of focus are: Right to Education, Ecology and Sustainability, Human Rights, Civic Participation and Peacebuilding, and Rights of Forcibly Displaced People.
In Canada, CJI works in schools and parishes to promote education and advocacy for international social justice. As a member of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability, we press for legislation to hold Canadian companies to account for human rights and environmental abuses committed abroad.
CJI began in 1946 in response to an invitation for Canadian Jesuits to work in Darjeeling, India. In the years that followed, CJI’s commitment to international social justice and sustainable development expanded, as did the geographic scope of its contributions.
